"Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof, but only say the word, and my servant will be healed. " - Matthew 8:8a
We all know the story of the centurion and Jesus healing his servant. The centurion was part of a chain of command. He needed only to speak a word, and the soldiers under him would obey. He believed that Jesus had the greater authority, even over creation. Jesus even marveled at the faith of this centurion - "Truly, I tell you, with no one in Israel have I found such faith," He told his followers. It is a magnificent story of one's understanding of proper authority and having faith in the source (Jesus) giving the authority.
So many things go on in our lives
these days, but actually, we are
no different than Jesus' followers of yesteryear. We clutter our lives and minds with problems that cause us
worry and anxiety, not to mention what seems to come out of nowhere. We even
let the challenges of the church cause us worry and concern.
God has called us to trust Him. He
is giving us the opportunity to serve Him as we put the fullness of our hearts
and minds into this call process. You have selected wonderful, intelligent,
wise, and loving people to be a
part of the call committee - loving people who have spent much time and prayer
going over congregational surveys and the individual talents of many capable
pastors out there already serving the Kingdom. They have talked with many
candidates and asked the "hard" questions. You, dear children of God,
have prayed hard asking God's good and gracious will to be done. The stage is
set, things are at a point where action, desires and "what if's" are
let go of and placed in the hands of God. You are at the point now where
trusting in God is at hand.
Beloved, its time to "let go and let God." Ask Him
to give you His peace and assurance and send His chosen servant to be our
shepherd. God is much bigger, much wiser than all the worries and anxieties
ever known by humankind. He created this beautiful world, formed us from the
dust , and sent His only Son for our salvation - so that we may be with Him
eternally. He will not forsake us!
Like the Roman centurion, reach down to the depths of your soul and cry out, "Lord, but only say the word!"... and stand back and watch the results of Holy Spirit inspired faith flow from the hand of God as He blesses us with a new pastor.
Let not your hearts be troubled -
