4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, al-ways trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
– 1 Corinthians 13:4-7,13
This past Saturday, I needed to make a repair on some clothing. I have a sewing machine and the supplies that go with it. However, the color of thread that I needed I did not have. I had a few errands to run, so I added a stop to Jo-Ann Fabrics to the list. I was kind of surprised as I walked in. The store was decked out in red, pink and white for valentine’s day. There were signs that said “Love” on them. There were big puckered red lips that could be hung on a wall. There were clingy stickers that could be put up on a bathroom mirror to surprise some that you love on that valentine morning.
It got me to thinking about the topic of love. Songs about love started to come to mind. The first tunes that I thought of were happy songs about love. Then, of course, those that speak of the hurt of love came to mind.
Then, my mind shifted to Scripture. I thought again of the Words above. I recognized that it is speaking about a pure, unconditional, sacrificial, perfect love. I started to evaluate that kind of love and began to contemplate if anyone has ever really experienced the giving or receiving of that kind of love. My mind raced through every personal experience, second hand experience, or even the stories that I have heard about putting love into practice and was coming to the conclusion that we let ourselves get into the way and that causes us to fail from time to time from this 1 Corinthians 13 kind of love. But then, the Holy Spirit reminded me that YES, I have experienced this kind of love from my Heavenly Father.
He loves me this way. I am loved this way.
As we are loved by Him, we become vessels of His love to be poured out to the people around us. How awesome is that. Yes, we do let ourselves get in the way of that flow sometimes, but by His grace, His love is still poured out upon us and through us. GLORY!
God Be Praised!
