Growing..not in years or time, but in momentum and growth as a Christian. Each person of the Trinity active in our lives brings growth. Growth gains momentum through encouragement of our brothers and sisters in Christ. So lets us grow and grow together, in Grace, Faith, Love, in Jesus, in Friendships, in Mission, and in passion for people.

Remember the Lord Who is Great and Awesome

"“After I looked things over, I stood up and said to the nobles, the officials and the rest of the people, 'Don’t be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your families, your sons and your daughters, your wives and

your homes'.” - Nehemiah 4:14

Last winter, our Wednesday Bible Study studied Nehemiah. I’ve been looking for words of strength, wisdom and encouragement as we move through these troubled times. I thought about the Nehemiah event and came back across this part of history.

There were threats on every side – this time for our Israelite forefathers. Jerusalem’s walls had been destroyed and the Israelites had been exiled to Babylon. Now the Israelites were returning to Jerusalem with work to do. The work was to restore that city by rebuilding the wall around it. Nehemiah, a former cupbearer to the king of the Persian palace, had stepped down from his glorious position of cupbearer to lead the Israelites.

BUT . . . Israel’s surrounding enemies posed threats to the rebuilding of the wall. So, Nehemiah said to the Israelites, “Don’t be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your families, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your homes."

We have work to do as Christians. It is easy to get sidetracked from the life of righteousness. We face threats on every side. The threats are all forms of sin. Sin leads us to give up in the fight against the enemy. We are tempted to give in to frustration. We are tempted to give in to anger. We are tempted to look for something – anything - that will bring us pleasure and satisfaction. Sin causes us to scale back in our fight of faith.

Remember that the Lord is “great and awesome.” Remember that the Lord sent Jesus, who like Nehemiah, gave up his position of glory to help you. Like Nehemiah, Jesus accomplished his mission of restoration. Jesus paid for all your sins. Jesus did it through his life, death, and resurrection.

There are enough negative stories bombarding us daily. Step back. Focus on the story of God. Look for entertainment, activity, work, routines that are edifying.

Through faith in Jesus we receive a restored relationship between us and God. All our sins have been forgiven. Through faith in Jesus we are able to continue our work as Christians. The Lord “is awesome and great” and will protect us in all our work done out of love for him. Amen.

God Be Praised!
