Study Guide (A free download from the app store of your choice)
Written by Martin Luther in 1529, the Small Catechism provides a brief, clear summary of God’s Word on the christian faith. In question and answer format, it explores the Six Chief Parts of the Christian Doctrine and includes daily prayers, a table of duties for Christians in their various callings and a guide for Christians as they prepare to receive Holy Communion.

1. The Ten Commandments – Show us God’s will for how we live and reveal our need for a Savior.

2. The Apostles’ Creed – Confesses who God is: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and what He has done to save us.

3. The Lord’s Prayer – Teaches us how to pray, trusting God as our loving Father.

4. The Sacrament of Holy Baptism – God’s promise of forgiveness, new life, and adoption as His child.

5. Confession and Absolution – The gift of forgiveness spoken personally by the pastor on Christ’s behalf.

6. The Sacrament of the Altar (Holy Communion) – Christ’s true body and blood given for the forgiveness of sins, life, and salvation.

Key Point

The catechism is not just information—it’s about trusting God’s promises in Christ and living as His forgiven children in daily life.
